Come out and Celebrate Pop Culture!

Please join us for this unique First Friday Event! Art Expressions Gallery will host a pop culture event celebrating comic book art with Students of the Unusual, the cutting edge horror/adventure comic book series, as the centerpiece.
A reception open to the public is scheduled for Friday, September 7th, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at Art Expressions as our First Fridays September event.
The works will be on display through September 28th.
Comic book writers and artists will be in attendance and original artwork and prints will be on display and for sale. Questions regarding all aspects of comic book production are encouraged and thoughtful answers will be given while a great time will surely be had by all! Artists will be available for sketching and prospective artists are invited to bring their portfolios for review. Bring the kids for this one!
Special guests at the Comic Book Art Exhibition include:
Writers Terry Cronin, Bob Lizek, Pat Martin and webmaster Jeff Hall of Melbourne's own Students of the Unusual. The award winning horror adventure series features many stories set in and around Brevard County.
Famous Faces and Funnies, a local shop specializing in comic books, comic art, collectible toys, and pop culture artifacts, will be on hand to promote their store and the joy of comic book art.
Miss Kika aka Liz Lorini, a freelance illustrator whose works focus on youth, fashion, and textile designs. Miss Kika also is known for her feminine manga (Anime) art and has been a frequent guest at many anime conventions.
Jules Rivera is a comic artist local to the Melbourne area. She has been making comic and alternative art since childhood and continues to make contributions to the art community. Jules has been creating web comics since 2003 and her current serial web comic, Marsh Rocket, has been running since 2006.
Terry Cronin, creator and publisher of Students of the Unusual, positively gushed enthusiasm, "It is a great honor indeed that our comic artists are being recognized for their incredible talents!"
Students of the Unusual began publication in 2004 and includes many stories involving the folklore and legends of Melbourne and the state of Florida. They have received excellent reviews and have had several recent honors being featured on the IFC channel and Taschen's Illustration Now. In 2006, they became the first comic book to ship with a DVD inside that included films based on their stories made by a number of talented independent filmmakers. In 2007, their cover art by Caleb Prochnow was a winner in CMYK magazine's Emerging Artists and Aspiring Creatives contest. Currently thay have been promoting an on-line song contest featuring fan-based songs that have been influenced by their comic stories.
